Welcome to our new monthly series - The Artist Spotlight!
Each month, we will ask some questions of our artists living right here in Medway and find out more about what they do. This month, we will put the spotlight on Mike Cannistraro, aka Canman! Mike (Canman) Cannistraro and his wife Angela own Visions Tattoo, Piercing & At Gallery which has been in business for 16 years here in Medway. Canman has been tattooing for 25 years and is an accomplished acrylic/oil painter.
- Tell us about your art!
My Art is best described as Surrealism or Imaginative realism. I like to make fantasy believable!
- What inspires you?
I’m inspired by my daily interactions with the visual world around me. Social issues and human emotional states find their way into my work as well.
- How did you get started in making your art? What drew you into the field?
I found enjoyment in creating art from an early age. I learned from working various dead-end jobs as a teen that a career in art is where I would find the most satisfaction.
- How long have you lived in Medway? What drew you to this town?
I was born in Boston, raised in Medway since 1970. My wife Angela and I felt Medway was the perfect place to open our studio.
- How can people experience your work? Do you have a website/gallery?
My work can be seen at visionstattoogallery.com and canmancreations.com. Also, many paintings are hanging in our gallery at Visions Tattoo - 133 Main Street. (Appointment only for now due to Covid).
- Describe your favorite meal
A turkey pie from Outpost Farm in the winter, a Maine lobster and steamers in the summer!
